Gut microbiota and metabolic disease - NDPIA
The gut microbiome is altered in cirrhosis; however its evolution with disease progression is only partly understood. We aimed to study changes in the microbiome over cirrhosis severity, its stability over time and its longitudinal alterations with decompensation. 1. Mucosal Immunol. 2016 Nov;9(6):1455-1465. doi: 10.1038/mi.2016.18. Epub 2016 Mar 16.

However, these changes were not reversed after the patients achieved remission. In our study, GAD microbial dysbiosis was characterized by altered abundances of eight genera. 38 It is also consistent with changes in colonic physiology and morphology demonstrated in two non-surgically induced models of depression This study investigated whether gut microbiota are altered in MG patients by comparing the fecal microbiota profiles of MG patients to those of age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Phylotype profiles of gut microbial populations were generated using hypervariable tag sequencing of the V4 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene.

Taxonomically and functionally distinct microbiota in patients with PAH with a prediction accuracy of 83%. Some of these bacterial communities produce metabolites known to be altered in circulation of patients with PAH. The most significant observation of this study is that it demonstrates a unique profile of gut microbial communities in patients with PAH. Genome-wide sequencing of these patients’ gut microbiota offers insight into the functions of the altered bacterial communities and their contribution to PAH pathophysiology. Altered gut microbiota composition in type 1 pulmonary arterial hypertensive patients. (A) Partial least squares discriminant analyses (PLS-DA) were conducted to compare the overall differences in taxonomy (left) and functional gene (KEGG Orthology) profiles (right) between the reference (REF) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) cohorts. The gut microbiome is altered in cirrhosis; however its evolution with disease progression is only partly understood.
